Grace’s Story

Grace, 38, shares why she stopped drinking and how she copes with common triggers like holidays.

Holidays can be a tricky time for me when it comes to dealing with cravings.

I’m sure most people who want to cut down or quit drinking will agree that going on holiday can be a major trigger. Even before I left for a holiday, I would plan to drink at the airport, and when I arrived at my destination, I always wished I hadn’t bothered.

I’m quite an active person, so feeling groggy and tired after drinking made me feel like I was missing out on quality time with my husband and my boy, Daniel.

Desistal gives me the extra support I need to curb cravings and enjoy time with my family without the hangover.

If you are serious about cutting down on your drinking, I would recommend keeping busy, getting a good nights sleep and doing things that make you feel good about yourself.

The best advice I can give you, though, is to get out of the mindset of “I’m going to drink on holiday; it’s too hard not to, I deserve it, and I’ll quit again when I get home”.

I used to make life so much harder for myself with that mindset. I used to say ‘I deserve this drink’, but I actually think my life is so much better without drinking, and I deserve sobriety.

I was recommended desistal by my workmate who had successfully used it over a 3 month period last year. Like him desistal enabled me to reduce the extreme irritability had trying to cut down in the past. I think I can now describe myself as an occasional social drinker however I know how easy it is to lose control.

My drinking was out of control, and my family was worried. I did some research and decided to give desistal a go as my last throw at trying abstinence. It worked as I felt relaxed and felt the cravings were minimised. Will recommend to others. 7 months drink-free, can’t believe it.

I don’t think there is any other way to reduce a man who has been a heavy drinker for 20 years  down to under the safe weekly limit in 2 weeks. A grateful wife.

My problem drinking was that I sort of lost my ‘off’ button along the way. I could not take a drink and put the cork back in the bottle. A doctor friend of mine recommended desistal and for the first time in my adult life I feel totally in control.

What a find! Saved a fortune over the last 9 months. Drinking 2 bottles of expensive wine daily for 5 years.

Desistal was a godsend for me. It reduced my cravings and slowed down my mind chatter and observation. When I passed the 7 day mark without a drink everything was fine for me – Thanks.

If you are motivated to quit and change, desistal is the way. I lost count on trying to quit failures in the past.

I am a counsellor based I London and I have recommended desistal to a goodly number of my clients, who have struggled in the past with the initial craving symptoms; however, desistal has substantially reduced their anxieties, and they have successfully got over the initial phase of their recovery.
